Logging in for the first time

When logging in to the PIA systems for the first time you will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This is a usual business practice in Australia to keep data safe.

Doing this only on a phone will cause problems as you will need to see two things at once. Use your laptop, a computer on campus or at a library.

To start:

  1. Download the Microsoft authenticator onto your phone:
    1. On your Android device, go to Google Play to download and install the Authenticator app, or
    2. On your Apple iOS device, go to the App Store to download and install the Authenticator app
  2. Once installed open the app and follow the instructions shown on the screen.

When you have the authenticator set up, on your laptop or computer:

  1. log in to outlook.office.com
  2. follow the steps on the screen

The computer/laptop steps are described in the video but once you have gone to outlook.office.com what you will need to do is:

  1. Enter your student email address - this is your student number followed by @student.pia.edu.au .
  2. Enter the password emailed to you by PIA.
  3. Change your password by entering the password emailed to you and then entering a new password twice.
  4. Provide further information to set up the Multi-Factor Authentication. Do NOT select "Ask Later" do it now.

On your phone

  1. Open the Microsoft authenticator.

  2. Press the + button on the authenticator to create a new account.

  3. Select Work or school account for the question "What kind of account are you adding".

  4. Select Scan a QR code.
  5. Using the authenticator app scan the QR code on the laptop or computer screen.
  6. Enter the number on the laptop or computer screen into the authenticator when prompted.

On the computer/laptop
